Nevada Driver License Requirements
Teens aged 14-17 must show proof of school attendance when applying for a permit or license.
Learner's Permit: To obtain a permit, you must be at least 15½ years old, show proof of school attendance, pass a vision and written test, and provide a parent/guardian signature. You can only drive with a licensed adult (21+ with at least one year's experience).
Pre-Licensing Requirements:If you are under 18, you must complete a driver education course either in-person or online.
Supervised Driving Practice:Permit holders must complete at least 50 hours of supervised driving practice, including 15 hours at night, with a qualified supervising driver (typically an adult age 21 or older with a valid license). You must submit a driving log detailing the dates and times of your practice before you can take your road test.
Hold Period & Road Test: If you're under 18, you must hold your learner permit for at least six months before scheduling your DMV road test. Once you've completed your driver education course and supervised practice, you can take the road test - and when you pass, you'll receive your driver's license.
Restrictions After Licensing
Passenger Restrictions: Driver under 18 may not transport passengers under the age of 18 unless they are immediate family members for the first six months after the license was issued. Penalties for violations include extending the restriction for six months or more and fines for repeated violations.
Driving Curfew: Drivers under 18 may not drive between the hours of 10 PM and 5 AM unless they are traveling to or from a scheduled event such as school events or work. Law enforcement may ask for satisfactory evidence of the event. This applies to all drivers until they turn 18.
